RESEARCH TRAILHEAD FOR INDIGENOUS MOUND SITES

NEWARK EARTHWORKS

The Newark Earthworks Center is an interdisciplinary academic center that develops projects and research about the indigenous cultures of the Midwest.  Working with Knowlton Landscape Architecture faculty members, Jake Boswell and Justin Parscher, and Professor Jon Low, Director of the Newark Earthworks Center at OSU Newark, the proposed center negotiates a series of pragmatic objects loosely organized on a field and held in place by the superimposition of a new ground.  Housing classrooms, exhibition space, archives, auditorium, and meeting space, the abstract form of the building is both part of the campus fabric and distinct from it by establishing it’s own context through the “re-indigenization” of the adjacent landscape.

The center’s site will be situated minutes away from a series of culturally significant sites in Newark.
